UK radio’s 20 most played tracks in 2016 unveiled

1 July 2016 Music News

Danish five-piece Lukas Graham have the most-played song on UK radio this year so far. Their 2015 single ‘7 Years’ has been played 99,506 times by a total of 295 radio stations in the first six months of 2016. They narrowly beat Justin Bieber’s ‘Love Yourself’ into second place. The figures by radio research body RadioMonitor show that, of the Top 20 songs, only one was actually released in 2016. That was ‘Pillowtalk’ by former One Direction singer Zayn, at No 13 in the chart. Surprisingly there are no British artists in the Top Five, with Coldplay’s ‘Hymn For The Weekend’ at No 7 the highest-charting local talent. I’m sure Drake’s “One Dance” featuring Wizkid and Kyla, will be in there soon after he claimed the Number 1 prize for an astonishing 11th week. This makes One Dance the longest running chart-topper of the digital age since 2004 and the introduction of legal download services.
