Fuel and food prices set to spike as Iran conflict hits Mallorca's supply chain

The island's builders, hauliers, and food distributors are sounding the alarm after diesel prices jumped 25% in a single week — an extra 75–100 euros to fill an excavator for a day and a half's work. Balearic construction costs are already 30–35% above pre-pandemic levels. Food distributors warn price rises could outstrip the 2022 Ukraine spike. Industry is pressing the regional government for diesel subsidies and a review of public contract prices.

Airport chaos warning: new EU border checks could mean three-hour queues this summer

The EU's Entry/Exit System goes live at Palma Airport on 10 April. Travel chiefs warn simultaneous UK, US and Canadian arrivals could cause waits of up to three hours. Lisbon suspended the same system last year after seven-hour queues. The UK Embassy is flagging that British residents of Spain must still queue in the non-EU lane.

Beach season begins: Palmanova and Peguera open this weekend

Three beaches in Palmanova and Peguera officially open this weekend in an early start to the season. The Balearic government says 70% of hotels will be open by mid-March as part of a drive to reduce dependence on peak summer months.

Government targets zero tourist growth this summer amid anti-tourism sentiment

Spokesman Antoni Costa says the aim is no increase in overnight stays during high season. Despite this, the Balearics ended 2025 with record tourist spending — up nearly 5% — though total visitor numbers only rose by 1.7%, with German winter tourism falling.

Spain fuel prices to rise 8–10 cents per litre as Iran war deepens

Brent crude has surged more than 25% since the US-Israeli conflict with Iran began on 28 February, pushing toward 100 dollars a barrel. Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz — through which a fifth of global oil passes — is severely disrupted. The IEA has released 400 million barrels from strategic reserves.

Balearics named most expensive province to buy a home in Spain

The islands have overtaken Madrid and Barcelona as Spain's priciest property market. Left-wing party Més per Mallorca has again proposed restricting second-home sales to island residents only, as town hall valuations remain well below real market prices.

Three jailed for nearly 28 years in Mallorca's biggest-ever real estate fraud

A court has sentenced three individuals to almost 28 years combined for a 3.3 million euro property scam — described as the largest recorded case of real estate fraud on the island.

Mallorca braces for UK tourist surge ahead of new EU passport checks

More than 3.5 million British nationals visited Mallorca in 2024. The Foreign Office is advising travellers to allow extra time at Palma ahead of the 10 April EES deadline, as non-Schengen zones are prepared for British passport holders.

Real Mallorca host Espanyol at Son Moix this Sunday

Real Mallorca return to Son Moix for a La Liga clash with Espanyol on Sunday, as part of a packed weekend that also includes the Paco de Lucía Festival and Fira del Fang ceramics fair in Marratxí.

Fira del Fang, Fira del Ram, Paco de Lucía Festival and more this weekend

Marratxí's ceramics fair, the Easter funfair at Son Fusteret in Palma, and the Paco de Lucía Mallorca Festival all run this weekend. The Balearic Symphony Orchestra performs Beethoven and Tchaikovsky at the Palma Auditorium on Saturday. John Grant plays Inca on Saturday night.
